Stewart Carmichael

Stuart Carmichael 1867-1950

Educated at Dundee high School and studied art in Belgium and France. His reputation was first established with his decorative murals for public buildings in Dundee including the “Leaders of Scottish Liberties” for the liberal  Club. As a young man he was inspired by the work of fellow Dundonians  especially John Duncan and George Dutch Davidson, but in later years he reverted to a more conservative style of painting, often depicting architectural subjects.
