Edward Julius Detmold (21 November 1883 Putney Wandsworth, Surrey – 1 July 1957 Montgomery) and his twin brother Charles Maurice Detmold were prolific Victorian book illustrators. Their watercolours were being exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of painters in Watercolours at the age of 13.
Books illustrated include: Pictures from Birdland (with CMD), Sixteen illustrations of subjects from Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’, The Jungle Book, The Fables of Aesop, The Life of the Bee, Birds and Beasts, Hours of Gladness (released in the US as ‘News of Spring’), Animals of the Farm and Woodland, Rainbow Houses, Tales from the Thousand and One Nights.
