Ernest Stephen Lumsden 1883-1948  ARE 1909, RE 1915, ARSA 1923, RSA 1933

Born London trained Reading School of art, Paris and ECA he settled in Edinburgh and became associated with many progressive Edinburgh artists between the wars. His reputation was established through his etchings but in his younger years he painted many good watercolours particularly those relating to his travels abroad. His watercolours of India are thought to be particularly fine. His book on the technique of etching is still regarded s standard work.
