Ian Fleming (1906-1994) was born in Glasgow and attended Glasgow School of Art from 1924 to 1929. He gained a reputation as an etcher and engraver indeed such was the high level of his work even at an early stage of his career one of his post diploma works is now part of the Aberdeen Art Gallery collection . He was a significant and influential teacher of art and became Principal of the Gray’s School of Art from 1954 to 1972. In addition to his printmaking, Fleming painted in both oils and watercolours throughout his career.
