Margaret Barnard 1900-1992
Barnard studied at Glasgow School of Art, and her first exhibition was in Glasgow in 1922. She moved to London where she trained under Claude Flight at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Her works were exhibited at the Royal Academy.
Barnard worked predominantly in linocut, but is also known for painting Italian and Scottish Landscapes. Barnard married fellow artist Robert Mackechnie, and lived in Italy for a time, before returning to England. Among her best known commissions was her poster design for London Transport at the end of the 1930s.
