Robert Buchan Nisbet 1857–1942
Scottish landscape painter in watercolours. Born 1 July 1857 in Edinburgh, son of a house-painter. At first apprenticed in a shipping office, but took up painting 1880, joined his brother Pollock Nisbet, already a painter, in Venice, then studied in Edinburgh at the Board of Manufacturers School and the R.S.A. Life Class 1882–5, and in Paris under Bouguereau. Exhibited at the R.S.A. from 1880, A.R.S.A. 1893, R.S.A. 1902, and at the R.A. from 1888; also in Paris, Berlin, etc. R.S.W. 1887, R.I. 1892–1907; also R.B.A. and member of the Royal Belgian Watercolour Society. Founder member 1892 and second President of the Society of Scottish Artists.
